An entryway to an arcade to symbolize a welcome to the new blog website.

A new Player has arrived on the scene, and that Player is you!

Welcome to the website and the blog. You may have already guessed, but this is the first of well… everything. The first website, the first real blog, and the first post. This is a brand new chapter. The plan for right now is to place the focus on building up my experience with software development. Here’s to hoping that the new blog takes off as we all continue to grow.

As a quick little “About me”, my username is often Kiyoi7. That’s pretty much where the name for the website came from. Apologies in advance if anyone finds the name taken in their character or profile creators. As an avid gamer for many years, I’ve decided to use this website as a platform for eventually building tech EXP in both the figurative and literal sense.

The theme across the website will be gaming focused of course. Hopefully you find the little jokes, metaphors, and references fun to read. I consider everyone in the audience a Player to maintain the theme too. Let this also be a reminder to keep an eye out for new demos in the Projects page in the future!

What’s the end-game metaphorically speaking for this new blog?

The end-game for me is being skilled enough to be a versatile member of a dev team. The road to making my own games and interactive applications would show that I can develop the tech skills needed for a task. From there I can be helpful to other team members by putting ideas out there for consideration. If the idea hatches into something that we want to go with, then we can raise it and watch it fly.

Well what’s the plan from here?

An Xbox controller that's presented here to give an idea of what's to come.

The overall ideas for my main game are already set, but I still need to work on building the necessary skills. This game is going to be a pet-themed platformer. My best offhand comparisons at this moment would be The Behemoth’s Castle Crashers and HAL Laboratory’s Kirby: Star Allies. For now, most major features that I want to be present will have their own minigames revolving around individual elements. That way I’ll have a better understanding of how to play around with them. The goal with this approach is to get comfortable with the puzzle pieces since I’m on my own.

While the posts on the blog will have more info on the making of XYZ, you can find a summary of what’s in a game on the Projects page. Let’s keep the first post short and save here. Come back again for the next post. The topic for next time will be more focused on hopping into the Godot practice pool. Anyone that’s curious can check the game engine’s main page by heading to https://godotengine.org.

If you’ve started making your own games as well, then what were some things you encountered with your first game? You can always let an email fly by kiyoi@kiyoiden.com. I’d love to read them.
